SCIENCE - Ocean Data Deep Dive

In this session, experience the awe of deep sea creatures living at depths of almost 2km below the sea surface with a video scavenger hunt, and examine how curated data sets from Ocean Networks Canada’s (ONC) underwater observatories can be used to introduce oceanographic concepts such as tides and plankton blooms. Explore Oceans 3.0, the free online data portal available for all to dive into the ocean!

  • Ocean Networks Canada
    Lauren Hudson

Lauren Hudson joined Ocean Networks Canada's Learning and Community Engagement department as a K-12 Education Coordinator in the summer of 2019 after spending over a decade in the classroom. She is a teacher with a passion for science education. We have so much to learn about our incredible oceans, and Lauren believes that exploring and connecting with the ocean are foundational experiences that will drive us to take care of our planet. As such, Lauren enjoys kayaking and any other activity that gets her outside, from teaching a class outside to cycling and hiking in her spare time.

  • Monika Pelz

Monika joined ONC's Learning and Community Engagement department as a K-12 Education Coordinator in the fall of 2012. She is a teacher with a passion for ocean and science education. Monika is deeply passionate about learning, and is always willing to try something at least once for the experience. This has led to some pretty incredible adventures including blackwater rafting in caves full of glow worms and watching whales breach from the west coast trail. Monika enjoys making people smile, and showing them all the cool things they can find at the beach while walking and exploring. In her free time, you can find Monika playing board games, baking, and painting.
