LITERACY - Up the Joy and Ditch the Struggle: Strategies for Secondary ELA Teachers to Love Their Work and Grow

How do we get more joy and less struggle in a profession where people put in such tremendous effort and do such essential work?  This session will support secondary ELA teachers to feel good and be good at teaching. Knowing the challenges that ELA teachers often face, we will chip away at potential problems with practical strategies you can try right away.

Do you want to know how to get and keep writers engaged without ChatGPT reliance, or how to entice reluctant readers to really read that novel? Do you want to learn how to get talk going in authentic ways, or manage the grading load without losing your weekend? Do you need ways to strike a work-life balance so you still have time to go to the gym and see growth among every student? Are you looking for practical strategies to manage a classroom without “managing?”

We will consider these goals and more. Teachers will leave with a host of literacy strategies so they can see their students thrive and find more joy in their essential work.
